On Saturday, July 26, held under a large tent at the High Falls “International Airport” (Sheeley's Farm Airport at Lucas Tpke and Fairview Ave), the second running of the Marbletown Founders’ Day will be headlined by the Founders’ Day Art Show, curated by Wired Gallery, featuring 30 local professional artists and artisans working in a wide array of media. (see list of participants below). A portion of the sales will benefit the Stone Ridge Library.
This year’s events will also present a unique art competition organized by Element 22 of High Falls culminating with an auction, also benefiting the Stone Ridge Library. A panel of jurors will select winners from 20 Founders’ Day banners, submitted by professional artists and children, and award cash prizes.
The visual arts display will be richly augmented by an eclectic assortment of performing artists who will perform hourly segments throughout the day in the event’s performing arts stage. Artists include the duet of Steve Gorn and Thomas Workman (10:30 a.m.), the Kurt Henry Band (12:00 p.m.), Don Haynie & Sheryl Samuel (1:30 p.m.), and a special treat of interactive dance by the Vanaver Caravan (3:00 p.m.).
There will also be live demonstrations of “Birds of Prey,” with local NYSDEC wildlife rehabilitator Annie Mardiney, on the art of silver smithing, and on the topic of grave-stone graphics that adorn many of the local headstones of ages past.
The event is sponsored by the Town of Marbletown. Admission is free and open to the public from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
